Monthly bookkeeping for small businesses and nonprofits

Every month, we keep your books current, reconcile your accounts, and send you reports you can actually use. You'll know where your business stands all year, and tax time stops being a scramble.

Is monthly bookkeeping a good fit?

You're doing the books at night and on weekends, after your other work is done.

Your books are current some months and not others.

Your tax professional has a long list of questions every year-end.

You want monthly numbers you can use, not just a once-a-year catch-up.

Payroll, 1099s, or sales tax deadlines keep sneaking up on you.

You'd rather spend your time running the business than reconciling it.

What's included in every month

Monthly service is built in QuickBooks Online and runs on a consistent close process: reconcile, review, and report.

Transaction categorization

Every transaction organized and categorized consistently, with a vendor attached, so your books are ready for review each month.

Monthly reconciliations

We match your books to your bank and credit card accounts, so balances are accurate and issues get caught early.

Monthly financial reports

A Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement, delivered by the 20th of the following month for most clients.

Questions, no guesswork

Anything we can't identify goes on a short list of questions for you, instead of piling up in "Ask My Accountant."

A secure client portal

One place to share documents, answer questions, and approve things. No email scavenger hunts.

Year-end tax readiness

Year-end reports and finalized books for your tax professional. We don't prepare or file tax returns.

Preparation and e-filing of 1099s

We track contractors throughout the year, then prepare and e-file your 1099s ahead of the January deadline. Included with monthly service.

Up to 10 contractors or vendors. Additional contractors or vendors billed at $7/ea.

Often added to monthly service

Your proposal can include any of these, based on what your business actually needs.

Payroll support

Coordination with your payroll provider, with payroll recorded correctly in your books.

Sales tax reporting

Sales reviewed, tax due calculated, and documentation prepared each period.

STORYLINE financial reviews

A plain-English look at what your last 12 months of numbers are telling you.

What does monthly bookkeeping cost?

For most of our small business clients, monthly bookkeeping falls between $300 and $800 per month. Your price depends on transaction volume and complexity, and your proposal spells it out clearly before you commit to anything.

How monthly service works

Discovery call

We learn about your business, your current systems, and where you need help.

Tailored proposal

A clear scope and transparent pricing, built from only the services you need.

Onboard & go

We connect your accounts, set up rules, and confirm your chart of accounts. Then, each month we reconcile, review, and deliver your reports.

Books behind? Monthly service starts with the current period, so we bring earlier months current first through catch-up and cleanup bookkeeping.

Common questions

What software do you use?

We work in QuickBooks Online. If you're not using it yet, we can set it up as part of getting started.

When will I get my monthly reports?

For most clients, by the 20th of the following month.

Do you prepare my tax return?

No. We keep your books clean and reconciled and give your tax professional what they need at year-end. If you don't have a tax pro, we can recommend one.

What if my books are behind?

We'll start with a catch-up and cleanup project to bring earlier months current, then move into monthly service.
